OCD
The intrusive thoughts you can't shake and the rituals that eat your day are real — and treatable with ERP. "Pure O" and atypical OCD count too. This is the specialty, not a side note.
I'm Denita Mortensen, a licensed therapist in Utah who specializes in OCD and anxiety disorders. If you've felt brushed off or misunderstood by therapists before, you're in the right place. Let's stop managing it and start treating it.
You've been told to "just calm down" or that it's "no big deal" — but you know what you're dealing with is real, and it's not that simple.
You know the thoughts don't make sense. You know the fear isn't logical. And you still can't make it stop on your own.
You've sat across from a therapist who didn't really understand OCD — and somehow walked out feeling worse than when you came in.
You've watched your child suffer and felt completely helpless, not knowing who could actually help.
You've lost whole mornings to a ritual you swore you'd skip today, and gotten so good at hiding it that people just call you "a little anxious."
You've spent hours down an internet rabbit hole trying to name what's wrong, and you're worn out from looking.
If any of that sounds like you — you're not broken, and you're not a lost cause. You've just found the right person.
Hi, I'm Denita Mortensen. I'm a Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC), and nearly everything I do is focused on one thing: helping people with OCD and anxiety actually get better.
That focus matters. A lot of therapists say they treat OCD. Far fewer are trained in ERP — Exposure and Response Prevention — which is the treatment that actually works for it. I am. I also draw on ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) when they fit what you need. The point is that you're not getting someone who dabbles. You're getting someone who does this every day.
I work with adults, teens, kids, couples, and families — and I see most people virtually, anywhere in Utah, with in-person sessions available here in Provo.
This work isn't just professional for me. I understand what it looks like up close to love someone who's fighting OCD and anxiety every day. So when I say I get it, I mean it in more ways than one.
Some of these are common. Some are rare and routinely missed. I treat all of them.

The worry that never clocks out — the "what if" spirals, the overthinking, the body that won't relax even when nothing's wrong. We work on quieting it for real.
The dread of being judged, the conversations you replay for hours, the invitations you turn down to avoid the panic. You can get your life back without faking your way through it.
The hours lost to mirrors, the part of your body you can't stop fixating on, the certainty that everyone else sees it too. BDD is often misread as vanity. It isn't, and it responds to the right treatment.
When OCD, anxiety, or tics show up suddenly in a child — often after an infection — it's frequently missed or misdiagnosed. If that's your family, you're not imagining it, and you're not alone. I have specific training here.
These seizures are real and frightening, even though they don't show up on an EEG the way epilepsy does. They're often misunderstood and dismissed. They can be treated, and I know how.
…and more, including PTSD and trauma. Not sure where what you're dealing with fits? Reach out and we'll figure it out together.

We figure out what you're dealing with and whether we're a good fit. You can ask me anything — that's what the call is for.
If it's a match, we book your first real session and get to work on the stuff that's been running your life.
I'm private pay only, and fees are listed when you book through SimplePractice. A lot of clients submit their receipts for out-of-network reimbursement — it's worth asking your insurer about your out-of-network benefits.
Yes — and it's my preferred way to work. I see clients virtually all over Utah, and in-person sessions in Provo are available too.
Yes. ERP — Exposure and Response Prevention — is the gold-standard treatment for OCD, and I'm specifically trained in it. This isn't a general practice that dabbles in OCD on the side. It's what I do.
Absolutely. A lot of people come to me unsure of what's going on or whether they "qualify." That's exactly what the free consultation is for. You don't need a diagnosis to start a conversation.
Yes. I work with children, teens, adults, and families. If you're a parent watching your kid struggle, you're welcome to reach out for them.
PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) and PANDAS are conditions where OCD and anxiety symptoms come on suddenly in a child, often after an infection. They get misdiagnosed all the time. I have specific training in this area, so if you've been hitting dead ends, let's talk.
It's a 15-minute call, and it's genuinely no-pressure. We talk about what's going on, I answer your questions, and we see if we're a good fit. If we are, great. If not, no hard feelings — you're not signing up for anything by booking it.
